The purpose of this study was to improve maternal competencies that were parenting information and knowledge, parental attitude including ideal values and self-image, communicative competency necessary for parenting, guidance skills and discipline skills with a parental coaching program. As for educational contents, the six-stage ACTIVE coaching conversation model by Korea Coaching Association was applied to every session using question-and-answer method, modelling and case presentation The instruments used to test the effects of the program were Parental Efficacy Scale(Choi, 2002) and Parental Stress Scale(Kim, 2008). The program was developed and conducted in the field of educare to boost the parenting knowledge, maternal attitude and skills of the selected mothers whose children were in early childhood, and this study is expected to justify the significance of the development of parental coaching programs geared toward improving maternal competencies and to provide some information on how to foster maternal competencies in early childhood.
