The purpose of this study is to critically consider the ‘key concept’ in the 2015 revised art curriculum, and to examine and embody the meaning of ‘big idea’ from the perspective of art as the background concept of key concept . Looking at the existing discussion of ‘key concept’ from the perspective of assessment and criticism, it is necessary to percept them from point of view on the ‘big idea’, particularly with the question of the adequacy of the ‘key concept’ term, especially with changes in meaning and problems with the term itself in the course of developing the curriculum. A big idea is the fundamental idea of teaching. The perception and orientation of this is closely related to the direction pursued by art education and is also linked to the general curriculum and other academic curricula. If the big idea is dealt with as the center of art curriculum, it will understand the basic aspects of the curriculum and curriculum design. From this point of view, it is necessary to recognize the role and potential of big ideas and to use them in the national art curriculum along with the re-conceptualization of key concepts.
