This study aimed to explore the expression area and folk dance content in elementary school physical education curricula. The intent was to assist in the composition of various folk dance contents and the activation of expression area classes by grade level when writing future curricula and textbooks. As the research methods, a content analysis and comparative analysis of the literature were conducted. The study collected data by analyzing the expression areas of curricula from the first to the 2015 revised curriculums published by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Education. Further, based on the 2015 revised curriculum, the methods of describing, explaining, contrasting, and comparing the data collected through the examination of the contents of the textbooks’ expression areas, folk expression, and folk dance in elementary school physical education written by eight publishers were examined. The findings were as follows. First, it is necessary to compose folk expression content that is appropriate for each grade level in the elementary school physical education curricula’s expression areas. Second, it is necessary to introduce various contents to elementary school physical education textbooks on folk dance.
