Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a short form of the Big Five Inventory(BFI) that measures personality traits under five factors. Methods: To develop the short form of the Big Five Inventory, the questions were selected from the original Big Five Inventory. The reliability and validity of the short-form Inventory were verified. For the analyses of the collected data, descriptive statistics analysis, correlational analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 22.0. Results: As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, a total of 60 questions were selected in consideration of the factor load and contents of the questions. The internal consistency of each sub-factor was also confirmed to be good. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, the overall model fit was acceptable, and the model fit by factor was excellent. In addition, convergence validity and criterion-related validity were both significantly correlated. Conclusions: This study, confirmed that the short form of the Big Five Inventory measures personality traits stably. The short form of the Big Five Inventory is expected to ensure the time efficiency and convenience of the participants during a personality study, and be utilized widely by enabling rapid personality measurement in clinical settings.
