이 논문은 불교계 중등학교 교법사를 중심 사례로 종교교사 교원양성과정의 역사적 흐름을 고찰하고, 그 특징을 다양한 관점에서 분석하는 것에 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 종교교사 양성제도 성립의 동기를 학교에서의 종교교육 실시와 국가교육과정 내 종교교육의 편제 과정을 통해 살펴보았다. 또한, 종교교사 양성제도는 종파별 양성과정으로 시작되었지만 국가제도를 통해 전문화되고 통일화되었음을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 배경 속에서 불교계 사례를 중심으로 한국 사회 종교계 설립 학교의 종교교사와 관련한 전반적인 문제를 되짚어 보았다. 이를 통하여 불교계 종교교사(교법사) 양성과정의 특수성과 모든 종파에 공통적으로 드러나는 보편적인 현상을 비교하였다. 향후 공교육에서 보편적 인성교육에 종교교과가 기여하기 위해서는 종교교사 양성에 있어 교원자격증 취득 과정 뿐 아니라, 임용 후 재교육을 통해 전문성을 강화할 수 있도록 제도의 정비가 필요하다는 것을 제언하였다.
Main purpose of this paper is to analysis the transition and current condition on the teacher training system of “subject of religion.” First, the purpose of this study is to investigate the motivation of establishing religious teacher training system in religious education at school and National Education Curriculum. Second, the system of religious teacher training started with the cultivation process according to the denomination, and it was specialized and unified through the national system. In this context, it is confirmed that the religious aspect of Buddhist religious teacher training and the specificity of education field are universal problems that arise in religious teachers of all mission schools. Therefore, it is argued that the training of religious teachers is needed not only to acquire teacher certification but also to reinforce professionalism through reeducation. It would be positive and pluralistic effects on religious education at the mission school.
