세계적 종교들은 창시자의 진리에 대한 언설(言說)을 묶은 경전과 그 경전을 체화(incarnation)하는 방편으로 경전 수행을 한다. 통일교도 마찬가지로 창시자 말씀을 묶은 경전들이 있으며 이 경전 수행을 위한 모임으로 훈독회(Hoon Dock Meeting)가 있다. 훈독회는 통일교 창시자 문선명 교주에 의해 1997년 10월 13일 제정되었고 통일교인들의 미션과 신앙생활의 중심의 자리에 있게 되었다. 훈독회의 의미는 (1) 신앙생활의 전통과 문화 상속, (2) 참사랑의 가정 확립, (3) 타락성을 소멸하고 창조본성을 회복, (4) 하나님의 뜻과 일치, (5) 인류평화세계 구현을 위함이다. 이러한 의미를 새기고 생활화하기 위해서는 훈독회가 단순히 독경(讀經) 모임이 되어서는 안 된다. 말씀의 내면화, 의식화, 인격화, 생활화가 되기 위해서는 경전 수행 방법의 개발이 필요하다. 그리고 이 개발을 위해 전통적인 종교들의 경전 수행 방식을 수용해야 할 것이다. 전통적 경전수행법 중 유대교의 토라공부, 기독교의 말씀묵상, 불교의 간경수행법 등을 고찰하여 이들 수행법들이 통일교 훈독회에 함의하는 바를 탐구하고자 한다.
Unification Church has a number of scriptures which complied the words from the founder. In addition, there is a meeting called Hoon Dok Meeting which practices the scriptures. This meeting was first established by Sun Myung Moon, the founder of Unification Church, in October 13th, 1997. This meeting has an important role in Unification Church s mission and religious belief of the church members. Hoon Dok Meeting has several important purposes: (1) the inheritance of tradition and culture of the religious life (2) the establishment of a family with True Love (3) to blot the innate depravity out and to restore the nature of Creation (4) to live according to the will of God (5) the realization of world peace. In order to make these meanings a way of life, this meeting should go beyond just reading a scripture. In addition, in order for internalization, conscientization, and personification of God s Word to be a part of one s life, a way of practicing scriptures has to be developed. For the development to happen, the traditional ways of Judaism, Catholic, Buddhism s practicing scriptures should be accepted.
