이 연구는 그림책을 이용한 독서교육 프로그램이 정신지체학생의 자아존중감에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 부산시 H 특수학교 초등 6학년에 재학 중인 정신지체학생 16명을 실험집단과 통제집단으로 선정․배치하였다. 실험집단과 통제집단의 차이를 알아보기 위해 CA, MA, SAB의 평균과 표준편차를 구하고 t-검증을 실시하였으며, 실험집단과 통제집단의 자아존중감 사전검사와 사후검사의 기술 통계량(평균, 표준편차)을 구하고, 집단간 t-검증을 실시하였다. 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 그림책을 이용한 독서교육 프로그램은 정신지체학생의 자아존중감(일반적, 사회적, 학교에서의) 향상에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치고, 가정에서의 자아존중감은 평균의 미미한 향상을 나타낸다. 따라서 그림책을 이용한 독서교육 프로그램은 정신지체학생의 자아존중감을 향상시키는데 효과적인 것을 알 수 있다. 교사가 읽어주는 그램책을 보고 들으며 친구와 함께 그룹으로 역할극을 하고 자발성을 길러 스스로의 의지로 능력을 발휘하는 자아존중감의 향상을 검증해 보고자 하는 것에 연구의 목적이 있었으며 정신지체학생의 교육적 요구를 고려하고 교육현장에 알맞은 독서교육 프로그램을 구안ㆍ소개하였으며 이것이 정신지체학생의 자아존중감 향상에 도움을 주었다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a reading education program by picture books on the self-esteem of students with mental retardation. The subjects in this study were 16 mentally retarded students in their sixth grade in H special school located in the city of Busan. After they were divided into an experimental group and a control group, statistical data on mean and standard deviation of CA, MA, and SAB were obtained to look for any possible intergroup gaps, and t-test was carried out. Descriptive statistics was employed to acquire another statistical data on mean and standard deviation of self-esteem pretest and posttest scores for both groups, and an intergroup t-test was conducted. The findings of the study were as follows: The reading education program by picture books had a statistically significant impact on the improvement of the self-esteem(general, social and school) of the mentally retarded students. They made a slight progress in home self-esteem. Therefore the reading education program by picture books was effective at boosting the self-esteem of the mentally retarded students. Basically, it's meant in this study to provide an opportunity for the students to read and listen to picture books, to do role play in group, to foster their spontaneity and ultimately to bolster self-esteem on their own initiative, which referred to loving themselves and others, on the assumption that the reading education program tailored to the educational needs of the mentally retarded students and the characteristics of educational setting might be conducive to the improvement of the self-esteem of the mentally retarded students. And the purpose of the study was accomplished to some extent.
