지방자치단체가 올림픽과 같은 국제적인 스포츠 이벤트의 유치를 위한 노력은 이러한 행사가 수반하는 여러 분야 즉, 정치적, 경제적, 사회문화적인 이점이 많기 때문이라 할 수 있을 것이다.따라서 본 연구에서는 스포츠 이벤트가 지방자치단체의 지역발전에 어떤 영향을 미치고 지역발전과 어떤 관계가 있는지에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위한 목적은 첫째, 스포츠 이벤트란 무엇인가 그리고 그 필요성은 있는가에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 둘째, 지방자치단체가 개최하는 스포츠 이벤트가 지역에 어떤 효과를 가져 오는가에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 셋째, 스포츠 이벤트의 행사로 지역에 미치는 효과는 과연 지역발전과 상관관계가 있는가에 대해서도 살펴보고자 하였다.
The reason for the effort of local autonomous entities for inducing international sports events such as the Olympics is because these events accompany many advantages in various fields such as political, economical, sociocultural. Therefore, this study aims to examine how sports events influence the regional development of local autonomous entities and how it is related to the development. The goal of this research is, first, to examine what a sports event is and whether it is necessary.Second, it is to examine how a sports event held by local autonomous entities affect the region.Third, it is to investigate whether the influence of the sports event in the region has correlation with the local development. In conclusion, it is examined in this study that sports events gave positive effects to the region and its inhabitants of the local autonomous entities economically, politically and socioculturally, and contributed greatly to the regional development.However, even though sports events positively influenced the regional development in many ways, there were also negative effects to the region and inhabitants of the local autonomous entities.
