The purpose of this study is to suggest research and policy development plans that can be applied in terms of sports convergence by utilizing the metaverse, which is used as a concept that combines or converges the real world and the virtual world, and news big data. This study collected and analyzed 11 national daily newspapers, five broadcasting companies and professional magazines, Electronic Times among the news supported by BIGKinds, a news analysis system supported by the Korea Press Foundation. The analysis period ranged from 2020 to 2022, the search term is 'metaverse', and a total of 18,093 relative articles have been collected. The conclusions of this study are as described below. Results First, as a result of frequency analysis by year, the current metaverse is a technology in which virtual and reality interact, and it can be seen that services are realized in essential areas of life such as education, distribution, and medical care in terms of non-face-to-face communication and services. Second, as a result of analyzing related words by year, it was confirmed that metaverse has increased social interest through Corona 19, and that the government and local governments are interested and investing. Finally, as a result of analyzing the number of articles per month, it was found that it was necessary to develop policies related to talent development related to the metaverse and contents development in terms of rehabilitation exercise services for sports vulnerable groups such as the elderly with reduced mobility. In follow-up research, it is necessary to include regional and economic daily newspapers, and to present a comprehensive policy direction by additionally analyzing the limitations of expression methods and sports-related legal research in the preprocessing process of Big Kinds' own analysis program.
