This study was to construct a cognitive restructuring group counseling program based on Beck’s cognitive therapy and to examine the effects of the program on reducing stress of university students. The program was administered out to 10 university students for 3 days. In order to measure the effectiveness of the program, Dysfuntional Attitude Scale, Stress Perception Questionnaire, The way of Stress Coping Checklist, and Stress-related Disorder Questionnaire were used before and after practicing the program. Results indicated that the effect of the program was significant in improving active coping and in reducing dysfuntional beliefs, stress perception, passive coping and stress-related disorder. The results implied that restructuring dysfunctional belief into rational belief was effective in alleviating stress-related disorder by decreasing stress perception and increasing active coping. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed and the directions of future research were suggested.
