Most Protestant churches tend to teach and encourage marriage in the same faith. In reality, however, a great number of Christians(i.e., Protestants) date or marry those who are from a different religious background. This paper examines religious heterogamy(marriage between a Christian and non-Christian) from a biblical perspective, and the relationship between religious heterogamy and marital quality from a psychological perspective. Based on the integrated understanding of the biblical and psychological findings, the discussion of how the Christian counseling should approach the interreligious marriage follows. The results of this study include: religious heterogamy have a greater possibility of negative impact on martial relationship than religious homogamy. When a couple have different religious backgrounds, they have limited opportunities in sharing religious activities, which further creates discrepancies in marital beliefs, religious coping, and social support system. Christian counselors are expected to benefit from utilizing these results when seeing a Christian client who considers religious heterogamy.
