이 연구는 교회 음악 감상이 기독교 암환자의 영적 건강에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 연구의 대상은 M 암 전문 병원에 입원한 기독교 환자 46명으로 실험집단 22명, 통제집단 24명이었다. 연구는 2013년 4월 26일부터 5월 2일까지 주 3회, 25분 내외로 진행되었다. 실험집단은 교회 음악 감상이 실시되었으며 통제집단은 휴식을 취하였다. 연구의 도구는 Highfield(1992)가 암환자를 대상으로 개발한 영적 건강 측정도구(Spiritual Health Inventory, SHI)를 이원희와 김명실(1998)이 번안한 것을 사용하였으며 사전, 사후로 데이터를 수집하였다. 그 결과 두 집단 간의 영적 건강 점수 차이는 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 교회 음악 감상이 기독교 암환자들의 영적 건강을 향상시키는 데 효과적이었음을 의미하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of listening church music on spiritual health of christian cancer patients. Subjects were 50 christian cancer patients in M cancer hospital in Gyeonggi–do from April 26 to May2. They were randomly assigned into the two groups: the experimental group(n=25) and the control group(n=25). The data collected from 46 subjects(22 from the experimental group and)4 from the control group) were analyzed and 4 subjects who were away or did not participate in post–test were excluded. The experimental group participated in listening church music, while the control group did not participated. The church music consisted of the hymns and gospel songs which are familiar to christians. Mann–Whitney U Test were employed to compare the scores of the two groups. Results showed significant differences in the scores of spiritual health between the two groups. This results led to the conclusion that listening church music can be effective intervention to improve spiritual health of christian cancer patients.
