This study is to introduce Michael White’s works and idea of scaffolding conversations as therapeutic application and practice on narrative therapy. The idea of Michael White about scaffolding conversations originates from Lev Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and concept of the zone of proximal development. Vygotsky, who was a Russian psychologist, was especially interested in early childhood development. While White was influenced by the idea of Vygotsky, he applied and developed scaffolding conversations as therapeutic practice. Scaffolding conversations are divided into five categories of inquiry; Low–level distancing tasks, Medium–level distancing tasks, Medium high–level distancing tasks, High–level distancing tasks, and Very high–level distancing tasks. Thus, scaffolding conversations enable people to invoke the sense of personal agency and responsible action in their lives. Furthermore, I am looking forward to be introduced and applied scaffolding conversations to the Christian context and community.
