The research presents a case study of a client who has suffered from traumatic experience in early childhood, adopting Diana Fosha’s Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy(AEDP) model. AEDP has not yet introduced in Korea, but recently has gained much attention with the research outcomes of affective neuroscience. In the case, AEDP model was adopted to support a male client who had experienced relational trauma with his father in his early life. The counseling focused on empowering the client to overcome somatic symptom called ‘fear of death’ and recover peaceful relationship with parents through AEDP treatment model. In the process, the counselor assisted the client with adequate counseling services to use the power of transforming affect and AEDP specialized techniques, such as “dealing core affect” and “metaprocessing.” The study results provide implications for counseling practices and suggest the possibility of AEDP as a short–term therapy model for Christian counseling field for trauma healing in Korea.
