본 연구의 목적은 북한이탈주민의 심리지원 서비스 갭의 내적요인으로 북한이탈주민의 신체 및 정신적 장애에 대한 인식 수준과 태도 요인을 탐색하여 장애인과 함께하는 교회 공동체에 기초한 장애인식개선 교육의 필요성을 강조하는 것이다. 먼저 북한이탈주민 5명을 대상으로 심층면접 후 주제 분석 결과 북한이탈주민은 신체적 장애보다는 정신적 장애에 대한 인식수준이 낮았고, 장애인은 노동을 할 수 없기 때문에 낙오자이며 치료의 대상이기보다는 제명의 대상으로 보고 있었다. 남한주민과의 비교연구를 위해(북한이탈주민 109명, 남한주민 124명), 집단별 장애인에 대한 인식, 부정적 태도, 긍정적 행동의도의 상관관계, 집단 간 차이, 집단별 장애인에 대한 긍정적 행동의도에 미치는 영향력을 회귀분석하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 북한이탈주민은 남한주민에 비해 신체 및 정신장애에 대한 인식이 낮았고 신체장애보다 정신장애에 대한 인식수준이 더 낮았다. 둘째, 북한이탈주민의 장애에 대한 인식, 긍정적 행동의도는 남한주민에 비해 낮았지만, 장애에 대한 부정적 태도는 더 높았다. 셋째, 북한이탈주민은 장애에 대한 부정적 태도 중 접촉 시 긴장과 왜곡된 동일시가, 남한주민의 경우 접촉 시 긴장과 타 기능 제한요인이 장애에 대한 긍정적 행동의도에 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the inner factors of North Korean defectors’ counseling service gap by assessing North Korean defectors’ perception of physical and mental disabilities and the level of their negative attitude toward disabilities and by identifying factors influencing their positive behavior toward disabilities. According to the result of depth interviews with 5 North Korean defectors, their perception of people with disabilities was negative. The comparative study on North Korean defectors’ perception of and attitude toward people with disabilities in comparison with South Korean residents’ was conducted with 109 North Korean defectors and 124 South Korean residents. The results of this study was as follows. First, North Korean defectors’ perception of the contents of disabilities was lower than South Korean residents,’ and their perception was low especially for items related to mental disabilities rather than physical ones. Second, North Korean defectors’ perception of people with disabilities and their positive behavioral intention were statistically significantly lower than South Korean residents. Third, among the subfactors of negative attitude, tension on contact and distorted identification had the most significant effect on North Korean defectors’ positive behavioral intention.
