본 연구는 인공지능 전환 시대에 상상력 계발을 위한 미술교육의 역할과 방향성을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 생성형 인공지능의 급속한 발전으로 예술 창작 영역에도 큰 변화가 일어나고 있는 현 시점에서, 인간 고유의 상상력 가치와 이를 계발하기 위한 교육적 접근의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 연구 결과, 인공지능의 창의성과 인간의 상상력은 근본적인 차이점을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다. 인공지능이 데이터 기반의 패턴 학습과 재조합에 기초하는 반면, 인간 상상력은 맥락적 이해와 의미 창출, 정서적·윤리적 차원과의 연결, 모호함과 불확실성의 수용, 자기반성적 성찰, 창조적 의도, 그리고 신체적 경험 등 다층적이고 통합적인 특성을 지닌다. 이러한 인식을 바탕으로, 인공지능 전환 시대 상상력 계발을 위한 미술교육 방안으로 1) AI 기술과 인간 상상력의 협업, 2) 공감적 상상력 함양, 3) 불확실성과 모호성을 창의적 자원으로 활용하는 상상력 계발, 4) 다감각적·체험적 상상력 함양을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 인공지능 시대에 인간 상상력의 가치를 재조명하고 미술교육의 철학적 토대를 제공하며, 기술과 인간성 사이의 균형을 추구하는 통합적 미술교육의 관점을 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
This study explores the role and direction of art education in developing imagination during the transition to the era of artificial intelligence. As the rapid advancement of generative AI brings significant changes to artistic creation, the value of human imagination and the importance of educational approaches to nurturing it are being emphasized. Research has shown fundamental differences between AI creativity and human imagination. While AI creativity is based on data-driven pattern learning and recombination, human imagination is multi-layered and integrative, involving contextual understanding, meaning-making, emotional and ethical dimensions, acceptance of ambiguity and uncertainty, self-reflexivity, creative intentionality, and embodied experience. Based on these findings, this study proposes the following art education strategies to foster imagination in the AI transition era: 1) collaboration between AI technology and human imagination, 2) cultivation of empathetic imagination, 3) fostering imagination that utilizes uncertainty and ambiguity as creative resources, and 4) nurturing multisensory and experiential imagination. This study is significant because it reaffirms the value of human imagination in the age of artificial intelligence, offers a philosophical foundation for art education, and presents a perspective of integrated art education that seeks to balance technology and humanity.
