이 연구는 초등 예비교사교육자의 관점으로 바라본 운동장의 역할과 의미를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있었다. 자료는 연구자의 운동장 일지와 자극회상질문지를 활용하였고, 귀납적 범주 분석의 방법으로 분석하였다. 첫째, 체육수업에서 운동장의 역할은 공간의 본질적 역할, 공간의 개인적 역할, 공간의 사회적 역할 그리고 공간의 공유적 역할로 범주화되었다. 둘째, 체육수업에서 학습 공간인 운동장의 의미는 일상적 만남의 공간, 수업 속 배움의 공간, 상황 속 창조의 공간 등으로 나타났다. 이 연구의 논의에서는 운동장의 교육적 의미와 가치, 운동장의 역할, 공간 이해의 확장 방안을 제시하였다. 이 연구는 운동장에서 학습자의 움직임을 이해하고, 운동장의 교육적 의미를 토대로 체육하는 학습 공간을 긍정적으로 인식하게 될 것이다.
This study explored the roles and meaning of playgrounds from the elementary school pre-service teacher educators’ perspective. Data were collected from the researcher’s playground diary and stimulus recall questionnaire using inductive category analysis. First, in physical education classes, the playground was categorized as having four spatial roles: 1) essential, 2) personal, 3) social, and 4) shared. Second, the playground’s meaning in physical education classes was expressed as a learning space for 1) everyday encounters, 2) learning in class, and 3) creativity in situations. The discussion presents playgrounds’ roles, educational meaning and value, and ways to expand spatial understanding. This study will help students understand their movements on the playground and positively perceive the learning space for physical education considering the educational significance of playground.
