[Objective] This study aimed to systematically examine the research trends of mindfulnessbased parenting stress studies in Korea and to provide foundational insights for understanding parental stress and developing effective intervention strategies.
[Contents] This study analyzed the research trends over the past 20 years by applying text-mining techniques (TF, TF-IDF, and N-gram) to a total of 59 domestic journal articles and theses on mindfulness and parenting stress published between 2005 and 2025.
[Conclusions] The conclusions of this study are as follows. It showed a consistent flow of ‘introduction phase focused on verifying emotional effects → expansion phase focused on emotional regulation and self-compassion → intensification phase with refined analysis of parent-child relationships and change processes.’ In particular, emotional regulation, self-compassion, and commitment to acceptance were repeatedly identified as key mechanisms, and these variables were confirmed to play a significant role in the pathway linking reduced parenting stress with improved parenting behaviors and parent-child relationships. These results demonstrate that mindfulness is becoming established as an approach that goes beyond simple stress relief and integrates changes in parents' internal experiences and relationship enhancement. Based on this, suggestions are made for standardizing mindfulness- and self-compassion-based programs for parents, tailored interventions for counseling high-risk parents, developing a digital-based parental mindfulness psychoeducation platform, and conducting comparative research with overseas studies.
