본 연구는 자연물을 활용한 수학 중심 미술교육 프로그램이 유아의 수학능력과 창의적 인성에 미치는 영향을 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 대상은 만 5세 유아 40명(실험집단 20명, 비교집단 20명)이며, 실험집단에 8주간 16회기의 프로그램을 적용한 후 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 실험집단은 비교집단에 비해 수학능력의 모든 하위 영역에서 통계적으로 유의미한 향상을 보였으며, 특히 '공간과 도형' 영역에서 가장 높은 효과크기가 확인되었다. 둘째, 창의적 인성은 '상상력-놀이성' 영역을 제외한 모든 하위 요인에서 유의미한 향상이 나타났으며, 전체 효과크기는 매우 높은 수준으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 자연물이 지닌 구체성과 다양성이 유아의 수학능력과 창의적 인성 발달을 통합적으로 촉진할 수 있음을 시사하며 유아 수학교육과 미술교육의 통합적 접근에 대한 학술적·실천적 함의를 제공한다.
This study aims to verify the effects of a mathematics-centered art education program utilizing natural materials on the mathematical ability and creative personality of five-year-old children. The subjects consisted of 40 five-year-olds (20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group). After implementing a 16-session program over eight weeks for the experimental group, an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted. The results were as follows: First, the experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvements in all subdomains of mathematical ability compared to the control group, with the largest effect size observed in the ‘Space and Shapes’ domain. Second, the creative personality showed significant improvements in all sub-factors except ‘Imagination-playability,’ while the overall effect size remained very high. These results suggest that the concreteness and diversity inherent in natural materials can holistically promote the development of young children's mathematical ability and creative personality. This study provides academic and practical implications for an integrated approach to early childhood mathematics and art education.
