본 연구는 해방 직후부터 1950년대 전후 기간 한국 초등 음악 교육의 초기 형성 과정을 국제적 맥락에서의 연관성 및 상호 작용에 중점을 두고 고찰하였다. 역사적 연구를 통해 1차 사료 중심으로 자료를 수집⋅분석하였으며, 연대기적⋅주제별 접근으로 분석 결과를 제시하였다. 결론적으로 첫째, 격변기 위기 상황 속에서도 서구 국제적 음악 교육 조류에 대한 교육 관계자들의 높은 관심과 적극적 수용 노력은 긍정적으로 평가할 만하며, 둘째, 해외 교육사절단의 기록 자료는 외국 교육전문가의 관점에서 당시 초등 음악 교육 현장을 관찰⋅평가한 측면에서 그 사료로서의 가치가 높으며, 끝으로, 1953년 브뤼셀 세계 최초 국제 음악 교육 회의 개최 및 세계음악교육협회(ISME)를 창설한 유네스코는 세계 음악 교육의 진원지로서 그 역사적 의의를 평가해 볼 수 있으며, 또한 회의 결의안은 한국 초등 음악 교육의 발전상 평가에 지표가 될 수 있다.
This study historically examines the early formation of contemporary elementary music education in Korea, from the 1945 liberation to the post-war 1950s, focusing on the connections and interactions within an international context. Using historical research method, it analyzes materials through chronological and thematic approaches. The research findings are as follows: First, even amid the severe crisis situations of this turbulent period, the high interest in and active adoption efforts toward Western international music education are worthy of positive evaluation; Second, the observation records and reports from education missions of the U.S. and foreign aid organizations hold high value as historical materials; Lastly, UNESCO’s hosting of the world’s first international music education conference in 1953 and its establishment of the ISME mark the foundation of global music education, and the conference’s resolutions can serve as an indicator for evaluating the status of Korean elementary music education.
