The Korean public schools have faced with several problems due to the college entrance exam system, including abnormal features in the secondary school classrooms. Recently even the Korean colleges and universities have been called as ‘the preparatory schools for finding employment or national exams\', contrary to their essential goals and proper functions. It may not be a wrong apprehension that these out-of-ordinary public education have resulted in the current conflicts, confrontations and discords swollen out from several fields of the Korean society. The paper suggests an application of the learning community programs for the Korean colleges as one of the strategies for carrying out their roles of educational systems to provide knowledge and foundation for lifelong learning. It introduces the concept and the characteristics of the learning community. It also analyzes the effectiveness of the learning community in the aspects of teachers as well as learners from the results of the case reports and experimental research. A majority of the learning community programs in the analyses reported the positive effects for both learners and teachers. According to the results of the analysis, three types of learning community programs were suggested to apply into the Korean college classrooms as following: team-taught, linked-courses, and team-project learning community. In conclusion, the paper discusses the expectations of these learning community programs, focusing on the students\' contribution to the society by those who have experienced the programs during their college days.
