The purpose of this study was to analyze symbolic meanings of stories configured by a young
child during sandplay therapy, reflecting ego development. The research participant was a five years
old girl who had experienced conflicts with her mother and grandmother. Her sandplay therapy
consisted of 31 sessions with 50 minutes each. Imaginative stories created by the child were matched
with a fairy tale which had similar structure and analysed the symbolic meanings based on analyticpsychological
perspective. The results of the study were as follows: First, the story of the child was
about ‘The Princess Wakening up out of Sleep’ that referred story of ‘Snow White’. The symbolic
meaning of the archetypal story was about being born as a princess who was free from the world of
fantasy which symbolizes unconsciousness. Second, the child\'s ego development showed the process of
ego-construction. The implications of the results and research limitation were discussed.
