The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the art therapy focused on abstract expression
on the depression and interpersonal anxiety of middle school student. The participant(client) of this study
was a middle school student(15-year old girl) with high depression and interpersonal anxiety, and
maladjusted in school. An art therapy program focused on abstract expression was carried out 1~2 sessions
a week, total 15 session, for 60~90 minutes each. The main results of this study were as follows: First, the
art therapy program focused on abstract expression was effective in declining depression of the middle
school student. Second, the art therapy program focused on abstract expression was also effective in
declining interpersonal anxiety of the middle school student. Third, the depression and interpersonal anxiety
of the middle school student were decreased continuously from the 5th session to 15th session.
