This research intended to verify the effects of horticultural therapy program on the confidence and self-respect of low-income children using child center. The subject was 20 low-income children (14 male children, 6 female students) at the age of 8~18, using child center located in Geumjeong-gu, Busan (10 students of experimental group and 10 students of control group). For them, horticultural therapy program was conducted total 20 times of 60 minutes for 3 months twice a week. The tools for verifying the effects of program were confidence criterion revised and supplemented by Ko Eunjoo(2004) and Korean measuring tool of self-respect, developed by Choi Boga and Jeon Guiyeon(1993). To verify the effects of horticultural therapy program on the confidence and self-respect of children, matched pairs signedranks test was used among the T-test matching sample and nonparametric test. For the pre-post comparison of experimental group and control group, Wilcoxon test was conducted. The results are as follows. First, horticultural therapy program was effective to improve the confidence of low-income children. Second, horticultural therapy program was effective to improve the self-respect of low-income children. Based on the results, it suggested the intervene measures that horticultural therapy program can improve the confidence and self-respect of children using community child center and finally, suggested limitations of this research and direction of following researches.
