The qualitative analysis in this study was done in order to analyze the contexts and
characteristics of high school students\' experiences on an identity education case that was
practiced in a South Korean common high school . For the case, I selected a group of students
who were in same class in a high school where the identity education program was practiced
as a part of their creative elective activities. I conducted various researches, such as,
participative observation, in-depth interview, and document analysis on the selected group to
fully understand the case.
As a result of my analysis, I found, in the process of forming their subjective identity,
students experiencing perception of human values as an individual, impulsive response and
emotional feelings, and empirical self-consciousness between idealism and reality. Moreover, in
the process of forming their social relation identity, I found them showing perception of
individuality and relativism, perception of universally common views, understanding and
sympathizing of others\' views and feelings, and integration of retrospective self-evaluations.
The study also showed the students\' self-awareness processes which were overlooked in the
former similar studies, and the positive transitions of their views on humanity and human
relations. l also realized that the students form their identities through the process of
self-examination and self-evaluation.
Last but not least, this study shows the importance of the practice of field educations that will
facilitate adolescent students forming their identities, and the needs of a development of training
programs that remind the teachers of the significance of such practice to the teenaged students.
