The purpose of this paper is to assess the new electoral system in terms of the democratic criteria and its implications upon the political education. The new electoral system can be evaluated to reflect more closely the democratic principles compared to the previous one. The new system reflects more closely the principles of popular empowerment and control over the representatives as well as the principles of political equality. However, the new system also needs further revision enough to reflect more equally the geographical distribution of the electorate, distribution of political opinion and the social composition of the electorate. Based upon theses assessment, we can identify some implications upon the political education. First, the political education, whether for the students or for the ordinary people, should be directed to make them understand the merits of the new system that permits voters to improve their control over the representatives through maximization of their choice according to their preferences for either party or candidates. Second, we need to emphasize the meaning of political equality in the political education classes teaching the representative democracy for the \'more\' democratic electoral system.
