The benefits of story books for young children may focused into effective basic
literacy and stable psychological and emotional development. The purpose of this study
was to compare the needs between the mothers for the young deaf children and the
young normal children to develop story books. There are many story books for normal
young children, however, there is not any story books for the young deaf children in
South Korea. Two hundred and eighty six mothers for the young deaf children and
mothers for young normal children participated for this study. Two-way ANOVA and
Chi-square were utilized to analyze the situation, needs, and contents of story books
based on two variables such as different school levels such as deaf and normal, and
experiences of participation at the early education environments. The results of this study
were followed. (a) The two groups such as the mothers between young deaf children and
young normal children indicated different situation to use the story books. (b) Even
though the two group mothers had different attitudes toward development of the story
books, the two group mothers presented high needs to develop the story books for young
deaf children or young normal children. And, (c) the viewpoints such as forms, contents,
arranging ages, and etc were suggested different attitudes between the tow groups
mothers.
