The purpose of this study is to identify trends and issues in the field of special education through a synthesis of journals. In this study, a total of 5,487 articles published in 17 journals in the field of special education from 1994 to 2009 were analyzed. Major findings were in following. First, studies on general special education was most frequently published, followed by mental retardation, non-disabled,communication disorders. Second, studies with elementary students were most frequently published,followed by preschool and kindergarten children. Third, studies on language, reading, and inclusion were most frequently published. Fourth, intervention studies, descriptive studies, survey studies, research syntheses were most frequently published. Results were summarized and the study limitations were discussed.
