The purpose of this study is suggesting the way for improving appropriateness of
special education fundamental to propose the directions and guidelines for developing the
fundamental curriculum of \'2010 revised Special Education Curriculum\'. To achieve this
purpose, this study select its research problem as to develop the model and strategies for
improving appropriateness of regulation of character and constitution of steps and
contents of special education fundamental curriculum. The results of this study is as
follow.
It is needed for students with severe intellectual disabilities to experience as same as
students without disabilities to constitute the character of special education fundamental
curriculum as alternative curriculum for students with disabilities who has difficulty to
participate in modified curriculum of elementary and middle school curriculum, that is
general education curriculum, and it is also needed to have 5 steps, stepⅠ is for grade
1〜2, stepⅡ is for grade 3〜4, stepⅢ is for grade 5〜6, stepⅣ is for grade 7〜9, and
stepⅤ is for 10〜12, and make stepⅣ and Ⅴ, which are secondary school level, be
constituted by general and special tracks and make its contents be constituted by 3
standards: Learning opportunity standard, performance standard, and contents standard.
Therefore, if fundamental curriculum of \'2010 revised special education curriculum\' is
developed by adapting the way, which is this study develop, for improving
appropriateness of special education fundamental curriculum, it is possible to make
special education be real education by supporting current special education move away
from its basis-medical model and to be a curriculum which guarantee appropriateness of
education and improve its results by raising expectations through expanding experiences
and by supporting successful transition and inclusion for students with severe intellectual
disabilities.
