This study intended to suggest a direction for class analysis research to provide quality class within the field of special education by analyzing trends in class analysis research, which has been conducted in the field of special education. To do this, a total of 24 studies were finally selected and analyzed, which used the class analysis method in the field of special education. As a result of the study, the majority of the topics were about the characteristics of teachers, and many of the studies were related to mental retardation. Most studies targeted teachers or both teachers and students, and the majority of them were those of class analysis conducted in special schools and special classes, with relatively fewer studies of integrated classes. The most number of the studies were performed in elementary schools, in the subjects of the Korean language, sociology, mathematics, science, and physical education. In more cases, the qualitative research took priority over the quantitative one. As for the quantitative research, filtering analysis was most commonly used, while for the qualitative research, two or more methods tended to be utilized. Based on this result, in future directions for class analysis in special education, it needs to have various topics which is focused not only on teachers but also on students. Also it is necessary to expand areas of disability, have class analysis in integrated classes, develope class rating scales, and have complementary researches between the qualitative research method and the quantitative one.
