It is important to understand teachers\' perceptions of the 2009 Revised National Curriculum,
and teachers\' demand for its effective implementation. One hundred twenty high school
teachers from Seoul, Incheon, and the Gyeonggi area were surveyed, and their perceptions of
the 2009 Revised Curriculum, curriculum implementation, and the new science textbook were
analyzed. The results are as follows. First, most of the teachers agreed with the necessity of a
\'fused curriculum\' and an \'education of creativity, character, and virtue\', which were
emphasized in the 2009 Revised Curriculum. More than 50% of the teachers were also aware
of the content of the \'fused curriculum\' and the \'education of creativity, character, and virtue\'.
Second, 52.5% and 78.4% of the teachers believed that the content and structure of the revised
science textbook were discrepant from a \'fused curriculum\' and an \'education of creativity,
character, and virtue\', respectively. Eighty percent of the teachers thought that the new revised
science textbook was biased in certain areas of science. There was a statistically meaningful
difference depending on teachers\' major (p<.05): generally, teachers showed a negative opinion
on the amount and deepness of knowledge in the textbook, but they liked the variety of the
content. Third, 93.3% of the teachers thought that it would be difficult to teach with the new
science textbook. They worried about teaching unfamiliar areas which were outside their own
major. It is essential, therefore, to distribute prepared teaching and evaluation material to
teachers for the successful implementation of the new curriculum.
