본 연구는 초등학교 분수 학습에서 구체적 조작물 중 하나인 패턴 블록의 활용을 통한 분수의 이해 증진 학습 방안을 모색하고 이를 적용하여 수학 학업 성취도 향상과 수학 학습에 긍정적인 태도를 갖게 하는지 알아보고자 한다. 이를 구체화하기 위하여 초등학교 수학교육에서 특히 아동들이 어려워하는 분 수 학습 시 패턴 블록을 직접 활용한 구체적 조작 활동 중심의 분수 학습 방안을 개발하여 관계적 이해 에 근거한 학습 활동이 중심이 되도록 하였다. 그리고 이를 적용하여 초등학교 4학년 시기 아동의 수학 학업 성취도 및 관계적 이해도와 학습 태도 향상의 효과를 분석하여, 아동의 분수 개념 형성을 촉진하는 유의미한 학습 방법으로서의 그 효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과 패턴 블록을 활용한 분수 학습 방법은 인지적 영역에서의 학업 성취도 중 문제 해결력 그리고 관계적 이해 증진에 있어 효과가 나타났으며, 정의적 영역에서 학습에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 갖도록 하는데 그 가능성을 기대할 수 있었다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the learning method improving the understanding on fraction by using pattern blocks in elementary school fraction learning, to enhance the achievements in mathematics learning, and to provide students with positive attitude in mathematics learning. This study introduces pattern blocks as manipulative materials for fraction learning, which students think difficult in elementary school mathematics education. Fraction learning method focusing on manipulative materials operating activities using pattern blocks was developed for relational understanding based learning activities. It was applied for elementary school the 4th graders to analyze the effects on mathematics learning achievement, relational understanding and learning attitude improvement. The effect as a meaningful learning method which promotes the fraction concept formation was verified.
