The current music class tends to focus on singing and music theory in spite of the
importance of music listening. The purpose of this paper is to analyes the appreciative area of
the 9 text books suggest the improvement plans for a music listening class.
The results of the analysis follow
1. The music text books are still focused on the Classic and Romantic period. Due to the low
proportion of the Contemporary music in the text books, it is desirable to include various
periods of music.
2. Even if the 7th curriclum text books emphasize on Korean traditional music, Western
music are more prominent in all of the text books. In order for our students to understand
Korean music better, Korean music should be more included.
3. The music genre is limited to orchestra pieces. Therefore, the text books should include
various music genres, such as solo instrument pieces, duet, trio, string quartet, and so on.
In conclusion, the next text books should include various periods of music with all kinds of
different genres, various composers and Korean traditional music. In addition, teachers try to
provide students with well balanced music environment.
