In this study, we\'ve analyzed the J early child Science Education Program, one of the
commercial science education programs that are increasingly getting popular among those kind
of institute for early children recently, in order to find a more effective way of science
education for early child. The 6th kindergarten curriculum has been chosen for the text of this
study. We analyzed the whole curriculum in 4 aspects - objective, contents, teaching-learning
method(teaching materials and tools), and evaluation. Detailed contents analysis has been
carried out by 5 criteria of human body and life, natural phenomenon, substance and material,
tools and machines. The result has revealed that the J early child Science Education Program
does not mention about the scientific attitude. The program seems to be strengthening the early
children\' curiosity by providing very rich material, but it tends to focus on certain topics only
and no relevancy was found among them. In perspective of teaching-learning methods,
materials and tools, the J early child Science Education Program actually helps to smoothen
processes related to science but could run in result-oriented way leaded by the teacher. In this
program, various materials/tools are provided but activities are not conformable to the order
of topics in the 6th kindergarten curriculum. For the evaluation, only the reports by an child
itself are used as evaluation data and there is no general comment about the whole activity.
In summary, even though J early child Science Education Program does not cover the
scientific attitude and some topics are neglected, this program has some strengths as well. Most
of all, compared to other commercial programs that have special teachers lead special activity
in large groups for certain period of time, this J program provides science education training
sessions for kindergarten teachers regularly so that the kindergarten teachers him/herself can
teach the children. This should encourage the teacher to build up confidence for science
education. Therefore, if the teacher can adjust this program specifically for the institute and
individual child, it would help activating science education(activity) for children and smoothen
up the progress.
