It seems proper that professional education should offer professionals the
opportunity to monitor and strive for making better practice and actions. What a
man calls 'practical epistemology' emphasizes the importance of 'practical
knowledge', which is gained in the fields and asks people to give attention to
'reflection' which makes it be possible. Journal writing has won public
recognition as a means of ask someone to reflect his studying and practice, but
there has been no concern about it in professional education. This paper
explores the possibility and strategies of using journal writing in professional
education. Thirteen professionals who participated in different six formal,
informal education programs were chosen as the subjects and they were asked
to do the journal writings at their pleasures. After analyzing their journal and
the process of writing them, it can be found that journal writing can heighten
the dramatic effects in professional education so that it could be enough to be
used in professional education. Some important points are to be noticed for
using journal writing, such that first, journal writing is a kind of 'reaction' to
instruction, second, there are two different identities and points of view as
learner and reflective practitioner in journal, and third, a professional peculiarity
of prudence to express their experience has to be considered.
