본 연구는 화병을 경험하는 아내가 있는 부부에게 Johnson의 정서중심부부치료(EFT)를 적용하고, 치료 과정과 결과를 분석하는 사례연구를 통해 EFT의 적용가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 회당 90분, 10회기 치료를 진행하였으며, 사전사후에 화병, 우울, 결혼만족도를 측정하였고, 매 회기 내용을 녹취․분석하 였으며, 종결 후 참여자인터뷰를 실시하였다. 사전사후비교결과 아내의 화병증상 완화, 부부의 우울 감소, 아내의 결혼만족도가 향상된 것으로 나타났으며, 부부의 정서경험 재구조화, 핵심 상호작용 재 조직화가 분석되었고, 참여자가 인식한 치료효과 내용이 분석되었다. 본 연구는 EFT가 화병을 경험하 는 배우자가 있는 부부에게 화병증상 완화와 부부관계향상을 돕는 실천도구로의 활용가능성을 탐색했 다는 데 의의가 있다.
Hwabyung is a unique Korean somatization disorder that manifests as one or more physical symptoms in response to emotional distress. The researchers of this study attempted to define the therapeutic efficacy of Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) by applying the model to a couple experiencing hwabyung. Methods: Ten 90-minute sessions of EFT were carried out with a couple experiencing hwabyung. On the first and last sessions, the researchers performed tests based on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Kansas Marital Satisfaction scale, and Hwabyung scale to identify the pre- and post-counseling differences. The researchers also conducted post-session interviews with the participants. Results: The EFT sessions resulted in an improvement of the wife's hwabyung, therapeutic improvements in the couple’s ratings of depression, an increase in the wife’s marital satisfaction, restructuring of the emotional experience, and restructuring of the couple’s core interactions. Conclusions: EFT appears to be an effective model for improving symptoms and increasing marital satisfaction in couples with a spouse experiencing hwabyung.
