본 연구는 회피 애착이 신혼부부의 결혼만족에 미치는 영향에 있어 자존감 및 부부 의사소통 패턴의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 자녀가 없는 결혼기간 3년 미만의 신혼부부 98쌍(186명)을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고, APIM 방식을 도입하여 회피애착이 부부의 결혼만족에 미치는 자기효 과와 상대방 효과를 살펴보았다. 연구결과, 부부의 회피 애착은 자존감과 부정적인 의사소통 패턴을 매개하여 자신과 배우자의 결혼만족에 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 남편과 아내의 회피애착이 자존감과 의사 소통 패턴에 미치는 상대방 효과는 자기효과에 비해 보다 더 유의했다. 부부의 회피애착이 자존감과 의사소통 패턴을 매개하여 본인의 결혼만족도 뿐 아니라 상대 배우자의 결혼만족도에 미치는 부정적 영향은 유의했으며, 자존감보다 의사소통의 매개효과가 상대적으로 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 부 부의 회피애착 그 자체는 자신과 상대 배우자의 결혼만족에 미치는 직접적 영향이 유의하지 않았다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 신혼기 부부를 대상으로 부부 치료를 할 때 회피애착이 당사자나 배우자의 자 존감이나 의사소통패턴에 미치는 영향력을 보다 명확하게 인식하도록 돕고, 부부 의사소통 훈련을 적 극적으로 제공해야할 필요성을 논의하였다.
This study investigated the mediating effects of self-esteem and negative communication patterns on avoidant attachment and the marital satisfaction of newlywed couples. Methods: Data were collected from 98 newlywed couples (N=186) who had no children and had spent less than three years married. In accordance with Kenny's Actor and Partner Independence Model (APIM), the researchers separately calculated the two effects. Results: Avoidant attachment affected marital satisfaction by virtue of its mediating effect on couples’ self-esteem and negative communication patterns. In particular, it was found that the wife's avoidant attachment not only affected her own marital satisfaction; it, along with the couple’s negative communication patterns, also negatively affected the husband's self-esteem and satisfaction. Conclusions: These findings suggested that marital interventions should be implemented based on an understanding of the effect of negative communication and self-esteem on avoidant attachment and marital satisfaction. The researchers also discussed the limitations of the study.
