The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of a Collage small group Art Therapy on the Socially
withdrawn behaviors of students with mental retardation in a special education school. The subjects of this
study are two secondary special education school students with mild mental retardation in Chung-nam
Province. Total 16 Session of small Group Art Therapy Program wad conducted, and the program is
modified and redeemed on the basis of mental, psychological Characteristics, abilities, Degree of
participating to group, interests of students with mental Retardation. For the effects of small group Art
Therapy program of the subjects, Each session program process was presented, and The change of social
withdrawn behaviors of each students was presented. and also the changes are recorded by using checklists
and Qualitative Analysis were done. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First,
Qualitative changes of Social withdrawn behavior are observed in the process of application of Collage
small group Art Therapy program. Second, the result of the comparison between pre and post test of KSD,
KHTP, BBRS, CBCL showed meaningful qualitative difference of Collage small group Art Therapy. In this
study, we found an effectiveness of Collage in small group Art Therapy to the socially withdrawn behavior
by the observation through the therapeutic process and the comparative results from the preliminary and
post-test.
