본 연구의 목적은 중등 생물전공 교사들의 연수 요구 사정을 통해 그들에게 유용한 현직연수 프 로그램을 개발을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 있다. 본 연구를 위해 중등 생물전공 교사 30명과의 면담을 통해 검사 도구인 설문지를 개발하였고, 검사 도구의 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하여 경상남 도에서 재직하고 있는 중등 생물전공 교사 200명에게 보내어 154명으로부터 응답을 받았다. 응답 받은 자료들을 기술통계분석하여 현직연수 요구 항목들의 긴급도에 대한 우선순위를 작성하였다. 본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 중등 생물전공 교사들이 현직연수 요구 세부항목 중에서 ‘학습동기 유발 방법’을 가장 중요하게 인식하고 있었고, ‘학생 창의력 계발 방법’이 가장 긴급하게 실시되어야 하는 항목으로 조사되었다. 또한 ‘수업자료 탐색 방법’, ‘수업자료 활용 방법’등도 다른 연수 요구 항목에 비해 연수긴급도가 높 은 것으로 조사되었다. 한편 조사 대상 교사들의 성별, 교육경력별, 학교급별, 설립별에 따라 현직 연수 요구 항목에 대한 긴급도 우선순위에 있어 유의미한 차이점을 보였으며, 특히 사립학교 교사 들의 현직 연수의 중요성에 대한 인식이 국공립학교 교사들보다 높게 나타나는 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구에서 나타난 중등 생물전공 교사들의 다양한 연수 요구를 모두 반영할 수는 없지만 긴급 도가 높게 나타난 몇몇 연수 항목에 대해서는 교육과정이나 수업활동과 연계될 수 있는 연수 프로 그램을 개발하는 것이 시급하다고 생각된다.
The purpose of this study was to assess the needs of secondary biology teachers and to develop a useful INSET program. A survey was conducted on 154 secondary school biology teachers in Gyeongsangnam-do. A questionnaire composed of 35 items was administered, which was developed through interviews with 30 secondary biology teachers and a pilot research with 40 teachers. The most important need of science teachers\' INSET was “motivating students to learn”, and the most urgent need was “developing creative talents of students.” Furthermore, “searching for instructional materials,” and “using instructional materials” were also higher than the other items in the degree of urgency. Likewise, many meaningful differences existed in the degree of importance, skillfullness, and urgency between the characteristics of the teachers. Particularly, it was found that private school teachers\' perception of importance of INSET were higher than that of public school teachers.
