The objective of this study was to evaluate the group balance training on the depression and the changes of serum
serotonin levels in people with chronic hemiparetic stoke. Twenty-one chronic stroke patients who were hopitalized in Busan D
Medical Center were selected by the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to either a control group(n=9) or an
experimental group(n=12). Data for the following outcome measure were obtained before and after exercise: Berk Depression
Inventory(BDI), serum serotonin levels.
The results of this study were as follows: 1) After the group balance training, serum serotonin levels were significantly
increased in experimental group compared with the control group. 2) After the group balance training, depression were
significantly decreased in experimental group compared with the control group.
In summary, these findings could feasibly be a valuable data for improvement of the balance, depression. More future
studies will be needed for the group balance training in people with chronic hemiparetic stoke.
