The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of interest and satisfaction in appearance
on interpersonal relationships and self-esteem in adolescents. 390 middle school students were
surveyed in the Suwon Kyeonggi Province. For the survey, the questionnaire was used as
follows; MBSRO (Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionaire) developed by
Cash(1990), MBSRO (Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionaire) developed by
Cash(1990), Interpersonal Relationships Change Scale developed by Schlein and Guerney,
Self-esteem Test developed by Coopersmith(1967).
The result of this study as follows: First, it shows that appearance interest is getting higher,
and appearance satisfaction is getting lower. Second, it shows that appearance interest and
appearance satisfaction did not affect interpersonal relationships. but, appearance satisfaction
were closly related with interpersonal relationships. Third, it shows that appearance interested
opposite affect on self-esteem. whereas appearance satisfaction is closely related to Self-esteem.
In Summary, we know that interpersonal relationships and self-esteem is affected appearance
satisfaction rather than appearance interest. The discussion addressesd implications of l
