본 연구의 목적은 부부관계에 대한 비합리적 신념이 결혼만족도에 미치는 자기 효과(actor effect)와 상 대방 효과(partner effect)를 검정하는 것이다. 자녀가 있는 부부 370쌍이 부부관계에 대한 비합리적 신 념과 결혼만족도에 대한 설문에 참여하였다. 비합리적 신념이 결혼만족도에 미치는 자기 효과와 상대 방 효과를 알아보기 위해 APIM(Actor-Partner Interdependece Model)을 적용한 다층분석을 실시하였다. 단 계적 절차로 남편과 아내의 결혼만족도에 차이가 있는지, 인구사회학적인 배경이 결혼만족도에 영향 을 미치는지 알아보고, 이를 통계적으로 통제하였다. 분석결과, 남편과 아내 사이의 결혼만족도는 유 의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 부부의 사회 인구학적 배경변수인 결혼 전 교제기간, 가정의 월소득, 가 족 형태는 결혼만족도와 유의한 관계가 있었다. 성적 완벽주의에 대한 비합리적 신념을 제외한, 의견 불일치, 마음 알아주기, 변화가능성, 성 고정관념에 대한 비합리적 신념의 자기 효과와 상대방 효과는 모두 결혼만족도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 가족상담사들은 갈등을 겪고 있는 부부들 에게 역기능적으로 작용할 수 있는 부부관계에 대한 비합리적 신념의 자기-상대방 효과를 이해시키고, 관계개선을 위해 현실적이고 합리적인 신념을 갖도록 도울 필요가 있다.
Objectives: This study set out to verify the effects of irrational beliefs about marital relationships on marital satisfaction. Methods: A total of 370 couples completed a survey that measures marital satisfaction and irrational beliefs about marital relationships. The researchers conducted multi-level analysis to examine the effects of the beliefs on marital satisfaction. To determine the net effect of irrational beliefs on marital satisfaction, the researchers tested and statistically controlled for the effect of demographic variables. Results: With the exception of the belief of being a perfect sexual partner, there were four irrational beliefs that had significant effects on marital satisfaction: disagreement of partners, inability to read each other’s feelings and thoughts, invariableness of themselves and their relationship, and the partner’s stereotyped sex-role. Conclusions: Counselors need to assist couples in understanding the effects of dysfunctional beliefs so they can have realistic and rational beliefs about marital relationships.
