‘Volunteering’ is the basic and important course to develop competencies of the
preliminary social worker. Social worker should have six vocational basic skills
that are interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, resource utilization skills,
communication skills, self-management skills, and organization understanding
ability. This study reports in detail how ‘Volunteering’ course for undergraduate
students was redesigned into CR-AL (Action Learning focused on collaborative
reflection) to educate competent social workers and presents implement strategies
and students’ learning effects. In order to present learning effects, researchers
collect and analysis learners’ reflection journal. The findings show learners
recognized their interpersonal skill(56%), problem solving skill(13.5%), resource
utilization skills(13.5%), communication skills(6%), self-management skills(6%), and
organization understanding ability(5%). In conclusion, the action learning is an
effective teaching-learning method to develop vocational basic skills of preliminary
social workers.
