In spite of increased research interest on career development and subjective
career success, most of them are concentrated to find antecedents of career
success. And prior research argue that career development and career success of
employees are critical to organizational performance, however, empirical research
is limited. In this study, we examine the impact of career planning and
subjective career success on adaptive behavior based on 463 survey data from
Korean manufacturing firms. As a result of the study, we found that career
planning was positively associated with subjective career success and adaptive
behavior. Empirical data showed that subjective career success had a positive
relationship with adaptive behavior. Finally, We also found that there is positive
mediating effect of subjective career success between career planning and
adaptive behavior. This study implies that it is needed to support employees'
career development and subjective career success for organizational performance.
Research results will be helpful for individuals who pursue their career and
human resources departments who pursue enhancement of organizational
performance through human resources development. Practical implications and
future research directions are discussed.
