국가정체성은 보훈의식 함양의 핵심요소로 인식되고 있다. 하지만 우리나라의 국가정체성 은 매우 흔들리고 있다. 오늘날 우리나라의 시대착오적·소모적 좌·우 이념갈등은 더욱 첨예 화되는 양상을 보이고 있다. 특히 국가정체성을 상징하는 자유민주주의에 대한 좌편향 역사 교과서의 왜곡은 여러 가지 점에서 매우 심각하다. 이러한 시각에서 본 연구는 보훈의식 강 화를 위한 국가정체성 교육의 문제점 진단에 초점을 둔다. 이를 위해 현행 국사교과서를 면 밀히 검토하였고, 이를 통해 다음과 같은 문제점을 발견하였다. 첫째, 애국정신 결여, 둘째, 호국·보훈 의식의 부재, 셋째, 한국전쟁에 관한 왜곡, 넷째, 대한민국 정통성에 대한 평가절 하 및 북한에 대한 우호적 서술, 다섯째, 왜곡된 한·미관계와 대한민국의 경제성장 기술이 다. 이러한 문제점을 토대로 본 연구에서는 이를 보완할 방안으로 다음 몇 가지 사항을 제 시하였다. 우선, 정부 차원에서의 역할과 관련하여 새로운 보훈정책을 입안하려는 노력과 함 께 역사교육의 정상화를 통한 국가정체성 강화에 힘을 기울여야 한다는 것을 제시하였다. 그리고 한국사를 선택이 아닌 필수과목이 되도록 하고, 선진국과 마찬가지로 대학입시나 학 점취득 및 국가시험에서 국사과목의 배점을 높일 것을 제안하였다. 또한 논란이 있는 역사 해석에 대해서도 깊이 있고 진지한 논의를 통해 국가정체성 확립에 기여할 수 있는 제반 여 건 제공의 필요성을 제안하였다.
As is well known, national identity, national unity and national development are inseparable. And they are related in mutual influence and they have interactions in generally. However, in the present time anachronistic and ideological conflicts in our country are becoming more relevant. Especially the enlargement of distortions and misinterpretations of the modern history of Republic of Korea diffuse widely in our country during the last 10 years. This phenomenon has a serious problem on the national integration and the development of our country. We can say that the creation of national identity and strengthen respect to the veterans of wars shall have a very close relationship. And education on the history about national crisis like war and about veterans of war have a very important value. Because the history of the country necessarily includes history of wars and veterans of wars, who sacrificed themselves for the country. Consequently history of the country describes the wars and military veterans, and these historical informations come down to posterity. Through this way the people remember their dear patriotism, and continues the national spirit and love for our country, and to be strengthen national identity and national integration. For this reason, there are expanding scientific researches and educations on the veterans of wars, and various awards for special national dignity is still carry out in the countries of the world. Thus, the public policy of military veterans and people's awareness on the military veterans show the characters of national identity. And by strengthening the policy of military veterans can establish of national identity, and national unity. Therefore, government have to try not only to formulate the new policy of the veterans of wars but also to magnify strengthen the national identity through normalizing education of history of the country. For example, the subject 'Korean history' has to be a first choice subject for the college entrance examinations, and the college graduation tests, and various national tests. In addition, government has to provide a condition to discuss deeply controversial interpretations of modern history, and can be reached an agreement.
