This study is to multilaterally analyze benefits given to Korean women
involved with the Korean independence movement, as well as to suggest
remedial measures against the patriot act policy. In this regard, there is the
need to analyze the actual circumstances of 226 Korean women who have been
recognized as of 2013 as independence patriots. The preliminary step is to
exactly define Korean women’s independence movement, and the next step is to
identify the correlation between the patriot act policy and female independence
activists, in line with previous studies. The actual circumstances of female
independence activists were classified according to merit ratings, birthplaces,
movements and recognition days, on the basis of materials provided from
Korea’s Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. The classifications were
additionally analyzed in order that in-depth results might be produced, wherein
respective features were observed. In addition, it was found that women’s
independent movement was in the same vein with the Korean independence
movement. The reality, however, is that many women have not been recognized
as independent activists due to insufficient evidences, the government’s lacing
the will to collect evidences, public indifference. Nevertheless, studies on Korean
women’s independence movement have been made based on Korean women’s
patriotism, and connote national respect for patriots that may lead to national
unity.
