본 연구는 구연을 통한 이야기 들려주기와 그림책 읽어주기 활동이 유아들의 상상력에 미 치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 울산광역시 남구에 위치한 6곳의 국립유치원과 어린이집 종일반 원아중 84명을 대상으로 사전 상상력 검사 실시 후 평균점수와 월령 평균을 기준으로 집단 을 배정하여 구연집단, 그림제시 구연집단, 통제집단을 구성하였다. 사전, 사후검사는 이야 기 짓기에서의 상상력 평가 척도(채미영, 2003)와 문학 상상력 중 상상경험과 상상성향 검사 도구(정유진, 2001)를 사용하였다. 연구도구를 위해 연구자의 창작동화를 바탕으로 그림책과 낭송 자료를 만들었다. 울산 중구의 H 유치원에서 예비연구를 실시한 후 실험, 비고 집단에 3주 6회 걸쳐 프로그램을 적용하였다. 연구 결과, 연구과정에서 보인 각 집단의 상상력은 변 동성이 컸다. 그럼에도 불구하고 처치에 따른 효과가 유의하였다. 첫째, 그림을 제시하지 않고 동화를 들려주었을 때 유아가 지은 이야기의 상상의 질이 가 장 높았다. 둘째, 감상동화 표현활동에서 구연집단의 그림 표현이 다양했고, 그림제시 구연 집단의 언어적 해석이 보다 다양하게 나타났다. 이를 통해 그림을 언어로, 언어를 그림으로 표현할 때의 인지적인 모호함이 상상력을 가미하는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 비록 아동의 상상력 수행의 변동성이 매우 컸지만 구연집단과 그림제시 구연집단 모두 상상경험과 상상성향에서 사전사후 검사 간 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 넷째, 상상력의 발현은 집단의 특성, 개인의 특성, 그날의 상황에 따라 민감한 변화를 보였다. 본 연구의 결 과를 일반화하기 위해 보다 많은 아동을 대상으로 반복검증할 필요가 있으며 무엇보다도 측 정 횟수를 늘려 보다 안정된 측정을 할 필요가 제기되었다.
This study compared the effects of story presentation methods(oral storytelling vs. picture book reading) on young children's imaginative abilities. 84 children were divided into three groups of oral storytelling, picture book reading, and the control groups. The performance on the test of imaginative ability(Chae, 2003) and the test of imagination experience & tendency(Jung, 2001) and verbal & pictorial expression after story presentation were measured as pre- & post-tests. The researcher constructed picture books & oral stories using the same story. The effects of story presentation methods(oral storytelling vs. picture book reading) were tested during 6 sessions in three weeks. The performance on imaginative ability and tendency fluctuated widely in each session depending children's emotional states. However, there were significant treatment effects: Both groups of oral storytelling and picture book reading improved more than the control group in performance on imagination experience, imaginative tendency. The group of oral storytelling showed the highest quality of imagination than other groups. However, verbal expression after story presentation was the highest in the picture book reading group and pictorial expression after story presentation was the highest in the oral storytelling group among three groups. More intensive measures of imaginative abilities for longer period of time will be necessary for the future studies. This study needs to be replicated with a larger sample.
