The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of preservice early childhood
teachers taking a course in early childhood movement education as one of teacher training
courses about that course, their satisfaction level with it and any possible gaps among their
awareness according to their major and the number of courses taken. It's specifically meant
to investigate their awareness of the importance and necessity of early childhood movement
education, satisfaction level with it and needs for that. The subjects in this study were 100
freshmen at B college located in the city of Busan, who were in the department of child
welfare and care and in the department of early childhood special rehabilitation. As for data
analysis, statistical data on mean and standard deviation were obtained to find out their
awareness, and t-test and one-way ANOVA were utilized to see whether there would be any
gaps among their awareness according to their major and the number of courses taken.
The findings of the study were as follows:
In regard to awareness of the importance and necessity of early childhood movement
education, the preservice teachers put a great deal of emphasis on the importance and
necessity of it. There were no significant gaps in that regard according to major and the
number of courses taken. They were satisfied with that course and had a lot of needs for that,
and there were no significant gaps according to major. By the number of courses taken,
however, the preservice early childhood teachers who completed one or two courses
considered it more necessary to acquire theoretical knowledge than the others who completed
three or more courses.
