본 논문의 목적은 분석철학이라는 현대철학의 중요한 사조를 현대 과학 문명의 역사적 맥락 속에서 검토해보는 것이다. 분석철학이 현대 문명의 핵심인 자연과학과 어떤 불가분의 관계를 맺게 되었으며, 그것이 철학의 사회적 기능과 역할에 어떤 영향을 미치게 되었는지 살펴본다. 결과적으로 본 논문은 대체로 분 석철학이 전반적인 과학주의의 영향 하에 소위 ‘가치’에 관한 논의를 배제함으 로써 전통적으로 기대되어온 철학의 역할에서 크게 벗어났으며, 더 이상 사회 속 의 실천적인 문제들에 크게 관심을 갖지 않고, 대중들에게도 거의 호소력을 갖지 못하는, 마치 예술을 위한 예술과도 같은, 철학 그 자체를 위한 순수한 철학이라 는 이미지를 갖게 되었다는 점을 주장한다.
The aim of this paper is to examine the analytic philosophy which is one of the most powerful trend among the contemporary thoughts, in the historical context of modern scientific civilization. This paper discusses the extraordinarily close relationship between the analytic philosophy and the natural science and its influences. The absence of ‘value’ within the study of analytic philosophy has resulted in the loss of the traditional role of philosophy and transformed into a more pure study of philosophy, focusing on almost nothing but philosophy itself.
