It is necessary to have an experience of social work practicum in overseas in order to develop international social work professionalism and to qualify as an international social worker. For this purpose, this study was conducted to find ‘how was the experience of social work practicum in overseas’, and analyzed the experiences of social work students who were trained in overseas, by grasping and modifying the meanings of experiences, and transforming them into an academic language. The in-depth interviews were carried out from March to May 2012 with 7 students who were engaged in social work practicum in overseas. Through the interview, 4 paradigms and 12 themes were deducted. The four paradigms were preparation and response to international social work, throbbing with expectation and fear, squirming, and cultural sensitivity and cultural competency. Based on the study results, some suggestions were made how to make the social work practicum in overseas more productive.
